Some points Alexandr Wang makes about coartintation in his interview:
- The ”Turing Trap” comes from the idea that AI will fully replace humans, but actually AI will create systems that combine human and AI capabilities in economically valuable ways. This will likely create more jobs and demand for human labor rather than replacing humans.
- AI is going to create a fundamentally different economy with a different mix of jobs, with potentially greater demand for human labor. There’s complexity and nuance to the impact of AI.
- People often intuitively think AI is fundamentally limited (e.g. because early systems hallucinate), but it’s hard to bet against continued improvements in AI models over time. We need to think about being on a continued track of AI capability improvement even if it’s hard to imagine now.
