Be My Eyes is an app that connects people who are blind or have low vision with volunteers and companies who can provide visual assistance through live video and artificial intelligence. The app was launched in 2015 by Hans JĆørgen Wiberg, a visually impaired Danish entrepreneur, who wanted to create an easy and accessible way for people to get help with everyday tasks. In 2023, Be My Eyes introduced a new feature called Be My AI, which uses OpenAIā€™s GPT-4 language model to automatically describe images and answer questions from users. This is also mentioned in Open AI customer stories.

Seeing AI is a free app developed by Microsoft since 2017 that uses artificial intelligence to narrate the world around you, especially if you are visually impaired. It can recognize and describe text, documents, products, people, currencies, landscapes, colors, handwriting, and light. It can also scan barcodes, estimate age, gender, and emotion, and identify faces by name. It was originally released on iOS devices and became available on Android devices in late 2023. It was developed with and for the blind and low vision community.
